List of tallest buildings in Ottawa–Gatineau

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of the tallest buildings in the Ottawa—Gatineau urban area that are over 90 m (295 ft) tall. Despite its size, Ottawa–Gatineau does not have many skyscrapers that exceed 100 m (330 ft) compared to similar sized Canadian cities, Edmonton and Calgary. Until 1965, buildings in Ottawa were limited to 45.5 metres (149 ft) so that the 92 m (302 ft) tall Peace Tower at the centre of the Parliament Buildings could dominate the skyline.[1] The National Capital Region has a complicated system of protected view planes that are governed by the National Capital Commission and adhered to by the City of Ottawa and Ville de Gatineau.[2] Protected view planes limit the height of buildings in certain areas of the downtown cores of Ottawa and Gatineau to protect the prominence of the Parliament Buildings.

The tallest building in Ottawa—Gatineau is the 45-storey, 143 m (469 ft) tall Claridge Icon located in Little Italy. The tallest building approved for construction in Ottawa—Gatineau is the 65-storey, 234 m (768 ft) tall 900 Albert — Tower 1, part of the three-tower 900 Albert Development located in Centretown West.[3][4][5][6]

Tallest buildings in Ottawa—Gatineau

[edit]

This list ranks buildings in Ottawa-Gatineau that stand at least 90 m (300 ft) tall, based on CTBUH height measurement standards. This includes spires and architectural details but does not include antenna masts. Heights are rounded up to the nearest metre from .5. As of July 2023, Ottawa-Gatineau has 18 buildings over 90m constructed, 8 buildings over 90m under construction, 19 more buildings over 90m approved, and 39 more buildings over 90m proposed. The region is currently experiencing the largest highrise building boom in its history. Heights of buildings built in the pre-internet era on this page are measured using Google Earth measurement tools, as previously posted heights of these buildings found elsewhere on the internet are typically sourced from the now defunct site Emporis.com, which had inaccurate data.
